Fiction Submissions

The following guidelines will assist you with your submission to Fiction:

  • We are seeking literary fiction stories along with well-written and developed “commercial” stories in contemporary fiction, historical fiction, mystery, science fiction, fantasy, western, and romance. Ultimately, we expect a well-constructed and executed plot, setting, over-arching theme and strong characterization. Ultimately though, we want to be entertained.

  • Submissions are a complete work of fiction. We are not seeking excerpts or introductions.

  • The submission is to be a maximum of 3500 words.

  • Submissions must be typed (preferably Times New Roman, 12pt, double-spaced) and files must be saved as: .pdf, .doc, or docx.

  • Please send two documents: a cover letter and your submission.

    • Your cover letter should include: name, contact information, Canadian city of residency, title of the submission, note that it is for Fiction, and a total word count. We encourage you to also submit a brief biography.

    • Please include your name on your submission as well for administrative purposes.

Response time is up to 7 months: the duration of the reading period and one month following. Ie. all submissions received until June 30th will be notified by July 31st, 2020. Please note that we do not provide feedback or commentary on your submission. See General Guidelines.

We only accept unpublished, original material. All work published online including websites, blogs, social media, etc. is considered to be previously published. If your submission has been simultaneously submitted, please inform us ASAP if it has been scheduled for publication elsewhere.

The writer and/or artist maintains the copyright to their work. We will issue you a Website Content Licence Agreement for an exclusive licence to publish the content on our website for a period of three months and a nonexclusive licence to maintain the content online thereafter.
